Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brian attended Purdue University with a degree in the theatre performance. Brian co-founded What If? in 2010 making his mark on Charleston theatre in the title role in Hedwig & the Angry Inch at the American Theatre. Brian worked as an Associate Company Member at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, TN where he appeared in numerous productions including The Wizard of Oz (Ostrander Nominee Best Actor in a Musical), Guys and Dolls (Ostrander Nominee Best Actor in a Musical), Bat Boy: The Musical, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, Jekyll and Hyde and Macbeth. Brian served as the Administrative Director of Charleston Stage from 2009 - 2017 where he was also a member of the theatre's Acting Company with memorable roles in Cabaret, The 39 Steps, Gershwin at Folly, Shear Madness, Peter & the Starcatcher, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Anything Goes and Hairspray. He was recently named Best Local Actor by Charleston City Paper's Best of Charleston Awards. Brian is now the new Executive Director of Footlight Players where he will launch his first full season in that role this coming August directing Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill.
Brian headlined the first What If? Piano Bar Series An Evening With Brian Porter which enjoyed a completely sold out run in spring 2017. He will next appear with What If? in our Holiday Mixtape Piano Bar Series show this December.
